Work Trip
Every year (almost every year), we get to do a work field trip. This year we got to see the Povah Collection which was donated to MSU. It includes items from the Hamilton family, the folks who ran the concessions in the park from the late 1800's through about 2002. At that point, the rules for granting leases to concessioners changed and the (now named) Povah family lost the lease. So, they donated an extensive part of the family collection to Montana State University. There were some really cool furniture items, totem poles from outside the stores, weight machines, Native American beadwork and baskets, mannequins, and everything in between. It was a fantastic trip and a great look into what the Povahs were collecting. It also helps us to know where other Yellowstone collections are as well as what they have in their collections.
