Trip to Cascade Lake

This Monday, the next to last day of May, Heidi, Lisa and I went out towards Canyon thinking we would ski out to Signet Lakes. Well, that didn't happen, mostly because we couldn't find it. Too much snow, it covered up all the signs. No, seriously. It snowed intermittently while we were out there but it was also incredibly sunny for most of the time. I tried out the skis Mom had gotten my for my birthday, Rossingol BC65s. They were awesome. I was not. I totally forgot that I was wearing new boots and got some awesome (different sense of the word) blisters. I... also forgot sunscreen and sunglasses which resulted in not only a wicked burn but also a line of redness across my eyes that lasted for about four days. While my heels are still in agony, at least I no longer look like I've been smoking illegal substances.

Any way you cut it, a pretty fun afternoon.

Library blogs

Will Unwound- Will Manley is well known for his survey of librarians' sex habits but he writes a blog about library experiences that thousands of professionals follow.
RA for All- Just started reading this blog on how to do Readers' Advisory and am already afraid of how many books I'm going to be adding to my TBR list.
Tiny Tips for Library Fun-I don't remember adding this one.
Librarian's Guide to Etiquette-Short, quippy entries about every day as a librarian
Swiss Army Librarian-A reference librarian's answers to every day questions. The latest one? How many silver dimes does it take to make an ounce of silver?

Podcasts--EMS

Ever since I took my Emergency Medical Responder class, I've been keeping up with these. Some of the entries I read since they pertain to me, some I don't. Unfortunately, I haven't been reading them long enough to really distinguish which one is which. Most of them are done by people who are in the field and giving out good real-world advice. I think all are part of privately funded EMS companies.

Medic Madness- good, short entries
Social Medic-NY EMS provider with longer entries that I don't tend to read all the way through
Rogue Medic-tends to write longer articles and will often follow one topic over several posts, often responding to comments
Burned-Out Medic- definitely one of my favorites. Gives short, pithy, good advice for patients, family and responders. Often wry and makes me laugh at least one every five posts.
Coma Toast-more story oriented, often includes personal stories, not just work
Street Watch-Paramedic with longer posts that I actually tend to read

Volunteering with the Ed Folks

Every once in awhile, I like to volunteer with other folks in the park. Knowing that I have Mondays off, my friend Trudy called and asked me if I'd like to go out with her and Michael and break some trail so that their next group of fourth graders wouldn't sink up to their waists. And it would have been up to their waists because I was definitely up to my mid-thigh most of the way. It was fun. Mostly. it was like doing the Stairmaster over and over and over and over... Even with the snowshoes on, I'd lift my leg up, up, up get it above the level of the snow, step... and fall right through. For four hours. Four. Hours. This was happening to both Trudy and I. Michael couldn't understand it as he just tramped right along, never even sinking in up to his ankles. Blergh. Good exercise though.
Stay there. Just... stay there.

So, my parents were out again in late January and stayed with me... for a week. We all survived. The pictures I have are mainly from a trip to the boiling river with the fam as well as Lane.
